F+M/ Cosmic Love

This is what perfection looks like.

The lights, the drums, Florence, the harp… really it doesn’t get much better than this. I’ve been listening to most of the material from Lungs (F+M’s debut album) for the past week, and there is just something so dynamic about Florence and her vocal performance.

Here is someone who is completely lost in the soundscape. The violence of the drumming, the quixotic and sometimes chaotic harp. Her vocals cut and coax and escalate in rhythmic intervals. I’ve never heard a vocal track this clean.

If you really want to be blown away, check out F+M’s performance at this years Oxegen 2010. You don’t want to say immediately that this is someone who has almost single handedly redeemed the independent genre, but then again, you rarely see talent like this…especially live.

           We have come so far.

Miike Snow is an amazing Swedish band with incredible harmony I’ve picked up on lately (…maybe a bit late to the game). What really gets me about “Silvia” is its completeness in poetic quality. Repeated frases are never expended beyond their meaning. Every note is hammered where it needs to be. You are trapped in a conclusion, without ever arriving. “Coupe de grace” as it is… never truly arrives.

Shot by famous art video director Markus Soderlund, “Silvia” satisfies every craving for winter and wanderlust. If anyone knows, I would LOVE to know the location of this shoot. I have looked everywhere!
